In a Nature News and Views entitled “Will Ocean Zones with Low Oxygen Levels Expand or Shrink?,” AOS Faculty Member Laure Resplandy discusses the extreme sensitivity of ocean oxygen minimum zones (OMZs) to biological and physical changes, and the difficulty of quantifying and anticipating these changes. Establishing this subtle response locally will be crucial if we are to assess the impacts on ecosystems and ecosystem services, such as fisheries.
