GFDL DEI Community Forum: Screening of Kendall Moore’s Can We Talk film and post-film discussion led by OAR's Catalina Martinez. Co-host: Jasmin John
We are pleased to invite you to a virtual screening of Dr. Kendall Moore’s documentary film “Can We Talk? Difficult Conversations with Underrepresented People of Color: Sense of Belonging and Obstacles to STEM Fields”, to be followed by a discussion of the film on June 29th at noon led by Catalina Martinez.
This powerful film captures the unique socio-emotional experiences of students, scientists, faculty, administrators, and medical professionals from underrepresented communities of color who are pursuing, in, and/or have left STEM fields. It provides the opportunity to reflect on cultural and systemic obstacles that are limiting inclusion for certain groups in STEM, and helps create context, language, methods, strategies, and spaces, to help invested communities and individuals develop ways to address these important, sensitive issues and subjects.
Our discussion facilitator is Catalina Martinez who is on detail with NOAA’s Office of Inclusion and Civil Rights and is the Regional Program Manager for NOAA’s OAR.
About a week before the forum discussion, we will share details on how to view the entire film via special screening for our community
